Train Travel
Travelling by train to the Alps.
There are several options to choose from if you want to begin your holiday to the Alps by train.
Eurostar offers a regular service which travels from Waterloo to Bourg St Maurice, in the French Alps. The train departs from Waterloo at 9:43 am every Saturday morning and arrives at its destination at 18:20 pm. The return journey begins on the following Saturday. Prices for a return trip start at £179 per person. Eurostar also offer an overnight service but they do not have sleeping compartments. For more information view www.eurostar.com or telephone 08705 186186.
If you want to ensure you spend your holiday skiing, take advantage of the Snow Train which travels through the night. The Snow Train leaves England on a Friday night to travel to Bourg St Maurice, in the French Alps and begins its return journey the following Saturday evening. You can choose whether you travel by train from either Waterloo or Ashford to the Gare du Nord and then you board the Snow Train. Return prices start at £219 per person. You can book the trip directly or as part of a package through a tour operator. To discover more about the Snow Train follow links to www.raileurope.co.uk or telephone 08708 304 864.
If neither of these is suitable for your requirements you could create your own journey. To do this you could begin in the UK by travelling by Eurostar and then continue into France using SNCF. It is possible to link up with trains to the Alps either in Paris or Lyon. This would also enable you to travel overnight in a sleeper compartment if you so desired. Prices would be variable dependant on your individual needs. For more information visit www.raileurope.co.uk or telephone 08708 304 864.
